Canvas painting transformation on a female body as a capsule collection of Dorhout Mees

Dutch designer Esther Louise Dorhout Mees chose the combination of female body and the canvas paintings as the starting point of all real-life stories that she reflects in her capsule collection. Canvas is itself a story – a story about life painting since 1800.

The most intriguing aspect of these paintings is how they represent much deeper meaning compared to what you see on the surface for the first time. Mainly romantic, refined and exotic flowers transformed on light and transparent chiffon materials, create innocent imagination during the first glance, however, after going deep, all these images tell stories that are deeper, like a hidden truth of life. The idea of a designer was to represent life, death and all different elements between them. In the following collection canvas on the female body become a kind of an embrace.

“What I wanted to do is to create a collection that would show the transformation of a painting. So each piece in this capsule collection is a part of different phases of our life. The collection is really personal as all these paintings represent me.” – explains Esther Louise Dorhout Mees.
