The contemporary Hip Hop by Glenn Martens for Y-Project FW 17/18
The creator of the Royal Art Academy of Anvers, Glenn Martens has been the collection directorof the parisian brand Y / Project since 2013.
Its very visual silhouettes are characterized by an incomparable structural elegance. In search of a simplicity, the creator brilliantly combines technical savoir-faire and emotion. Exceeding the conventions, his approach to fashion is remarkable for his architectural work on the cuts.
For the FW 17/18 collection, Glenn Martens took inspiration from the Hip Hop wardrobe by destructuring it and bringing an unexpected romantic touch. The work on the silhouette is maximal, creating for some a feeling of waves, a silhouette of undulating inhuman flexibility. With a mix of historical references and contemporary Hip Hop icons, the collection presents a perfect balance.
The Y / Project FW 17/18 collection will consist of a real puzzle of materials, an original play of layering, decomposition of pieces, the clothes seem to have been victims of a real explosion, creating a creative rebirth. The false furs are deconstructed, the jeans and tracksuits cut, the oversize polo shirts, some jeans jackets are split, ribbons meters in belt … We also find soccer jerseys reinvented in mesh, scarves bearing the historical figures of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, t-shirts with the effigy of Napoleon and Josephine or Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette … a tribute to the names of the Frech History.
