David Yurman Exposes the USA Men’s Collection In collaboration with Anthony James

David Yurman, American brand of high class jewelry, is presented for the first time in Italy to coincide with Milan Fashion week collections. Staged in the church San Paolo Converso, historical town house, now home to CLS Architects, the show was conceived in tandem with the sculptor, painter and performer James Anthony, creating exclusive interaction of sculptures and jewelries, which refers to origins of the brand. It was born in 1980 by sculptor David Yurman in collaboration with his wife Sybil, a painter of the New York downtown scene. It featured a jewelry design. The brand is inspired and characterized by artistic training and visionary approach of its founders and has an intrinsic link with the plastic arts. Design Director, the son of David and Sybil Yurman, Evan created bond in jewelry design for men, realizing collections characterized by the use of unconventional materials, innovative technology and great craftsmanship. David Yurman’s collections, such as Forged Carbon and Meteorite, which transcend all standards, reaching unsurpassed levels of inventiveness, sophistication and creative ingenuity. Modern art enthusiast, Evan came into contact with the work of Anthony James in 2004 and since then has started collecting pewter-ware sculptures, bright monoliths cuboid or otherwise of a rhododendron such as those that characterize the setting of exposure Milanese. The cooperation of Evan and Anthony is in fact generated idea to resize and transpire faceted volumes of dodecahedra and turn them into containers showcase for jewelry, precious and refined objects in the drawing that can be so observed from several points of view and multiple angles. Fourteen unique container-like showcase works and a large outdoor sculptures, created ad hoc, which will remain on display for a month in the open space overlooking the Church of San Paolo Converso. “Anthony’s work has a strong impact, but does not fail to trigger a series of reflections,” notes Evan Yurman. “Play with the structures of our society, to create pieces that change, however, amplify and change the encoded conception of space, time and form. His approach to innovation reflects it, we use both the sculpture, volumes and shapes to tell stories and to get in touch with the public. These parallels have attracted me to his work. Anthony James is a British-born artist, who lives and works in Los Angeles. Si tratta di quattordici contenitori-vetrina unici come opere e di una grande scultura da esterno, realizzata ad hoc, che resterà esposta per un mese nello spiazzo prospiciente alla Chiesa di San Paolo Converso. “Il lavoro di Anthony è di forte impatto, ma non manca di innescare una serie di riflessioni”, osserva Evan Yurman. “Gioca con le strutture della nostra società, per creare pezzi che tuttavia modificano, amplificano e mutano la concezione codificata dello spazio, del tempo e della forma. Il suo approccio all’innovazione rispecchia il nostro, entrambi usiamo la scultura, i volumi e le forme per raccontare storie e per entrare in contatto con il pubblico. Questi parallelismi mi hanno attratto verso il suo lavoro. E trovo che Milano, città centro d’arte, design e cultura, costituisca uno scenario perfetto per unire finalmente i nostri due universi in un unico progetto espositivo.” Anthony James, dal canto suo, dichiara: “La scultura a dodecaedro che ho creato per David Yurman è nata da una specifica declinazione dell’infinito e dell’universo. Guardando nella scultura, percepisci strati multipli di realtà, una realtà frammentata e ravvicinata dai riflessi del vetro, che ti sembra di toccare con mano. E il dodecaedro rispecchia non a caso il mio interesse a rappresentare un universo multidimensionale”.
