Theater of Light: Elie Saab Bridal Fall 2018

The ELIE SAAB Bridal Fall 2018 Collection presents a regal orchestra of nine silhouettes, timeless gowns that capture the essential elegance of the contemporary bride.

The theatre’s stage is set. Its grand view brings the exquisite details and fine craftsmanship into relief, unveiling ornate yet ethereal beading, delicate appliques, shimmering sequins cascading on soft tulles, layered lace and sculptured satins. Between the sweeping stage and the finer forms, the bride is illuminated, appearing like an apparition in her regal stature.

Arabesques, fine lines or leafy branches take form upon floor-length mermaid gowns or A-line skirts of voluminous tulle. They play upon the structure of the form-fitting bustiers, whether marked by a plunging V-neck, round necklines, or off-the-shoulder styles.

Partial embroidery appears like leaves falling on the skin, adding a figurative dimension to the near-transparency of tulle. It begins the patterned storytelling that cascades downward, all the way to the wedding dress train. This technique, along with the elaborate 3D silk organza and satin flower appliques, express the Maison’s rich heritage of detailed craftsmanship.

The veils, however, capture the true audacity of the collection. Some are whisper-light with accents of the gown’s embroidery; others are crown-like headbands that become a wide braid of fine tulle and sequins at the back of the head, spreading out into a diaphanous single-layer veil. A unique hooded cape—particularly statuesque— features full embroidery in sequins, stones and beads to finish with a gently rounded, majestic train.
