Summer Reads Curated by Chanel’s Librairie 7L

A compact summer library shaped by different voices, sensibilities and experiences, turning reading into a journey through time and across the world.

Four women, four different eras and four distinct ways of looking at the world. The summer selection curated by Librairie 7L, founded by Karl Lagerfeld in 1999 and acquired by CHANEL in 2021, crosses centuries and continents through literature, poetry, photography and memory.

From the intimate and perceptive observations of 11th-century Japanese court lady Sei Shōnagon to the poetry of American folk singer Joan Baez, the selection also includes Jacqueline Harpman’s stories, suspended between reality and imagination. Completing the journey is the story of Lee Miller, told by her son Antony Penrose: a muse and model who became a fashion photographer and later a fearless war correspondent.
