Fondazione Prada has announced the second edition of the Fondazione Prada Film Fund, the annual €1.5 million initiative dedicated to supporting independent cinema worldwide. Applications are open until August and September 2026.
Fondazione Prada has opened the second call for entries for the Fondazione Prada Film Fund, the annual initiative launched in 2025 to support independent cinema and contribute to the creation of feature films of significant artistic value.
With a total budget of €1.5 million, the fund confirms Fondazione Prada’s commitment to contemporary film research. After more than twenty years of exploring audiovisual practices, the institution is now extending its support to the development, production and post-production processes of filmmaking.
Fondazione Prada Film Fund: Deadlines and Application Details
The call is available on the official website fondazioneprada.org/film-fund/ and is open to feature film projects at different stages of completion.
Applications will remain open:
- until 6 August 2026 for projects in production;
- until 10 September 2026 for projects in development and post-production.
The final selection of supported projects will be announced in February 2027.
A €1.5 Million Fund for Independent Cinema
The Fondazione Prada Film Fund supports film projects distinguished by originality, artistic quality, creative freedom and formal research.
The financial contribution can reach up to €250,000 per project and is granted to the main production company. The aim is to provide concrete and strategic support to films with a strong, personal and artistically ambitious authorial vision.
The fund is open to all film genres and to projects from every geographical area. It welcomes a wide range of languages, forms and perspectives, with particular attention to works that offer new visions of contemporary cinema.
The Success of the First Edition
The first call for entries, open between September and October 2025, received more than 1,200 applications from around the world.
A total of 14 projects were selected, directed by 6 women filmmakers and 8 men filmmakers, including Natalia Almada, Verena Paravel, Tatiana Huezo, Laura Citarella, Rubaiyat Hossain, Daria Martin, Yuri Ancarani, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Baloji, Levan Akin, Corneliu Porumboiu, Andrea Gatopoulos, Hlynur Pálmason and Eduardo Williams.
Among the selected works, 4 were in development, 9 in production and 1 in post-production. The projects involved production companies active in 26 countries across 5 continents, confirming the international scope of the initiative.

According to Miuccia Prada, President and Director of Fondazione Prada, the second edition of the Film Fund confirms the institution’s support for authors and industry professionals pursuing a free, rigorous and visionary idea of cinema.
For Fondazione Prada, continuing to invest in contemporary film research means contributing to the vitality of a language that remains essential to interpreting the complexity of the present.
Paolo Moretti, Head of Fondazione Prada Film Fund, also highlights the value of the initiative. The response to the first edition, both in terms of the number of applications and the quality of the projects submitted, confirmed that independent cinema continues to be a vital space for experimentation, innovation and creative freedom.
How Projects Will Be Selected
After a preliminary eligibility check, applications will be assessed in two stages.
The first evaluation will be carried out with the support of an international group of consultants working across programming, curating, production, criticism and film research.
The final selection will be entrusted to a committee composed of Miuccia Prada, Paolo Moretti, Chiara Costa, Rebecca De Pas, Giuliana Bruno and Violeta Bava.
The selection process will consider artistic quality, project coherence, production solidity and the ability of each work to offer an original perspective on contemporary cinema.

The Fondazione Prada Film Fund was developed by Paolo Moretti, curator of the Cinema Godard programme at Fondazione Prada and former Director of the Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival, in collaboration with Rebecca De Pas, Project Manager of the fund.
