From 25 September to 15 November 2026, le19M, the Parisian hub founded by CHANEL in 2021 and dedicated to the Métiers d’art of fashion and decoration, will travel to Shanghai for the first time with a major international project hosted at the Museum of Art Pudong. la Galerie du 19M Arrives in Shanghai: CHANEL Brings the Métiers d’art to the Museum of Art Pudong

Founded in Paris to bring together eleven Maisons d’art and nearly 700 artisans and experts, le19M has become a landmark for the transmission and celebration of exceptional craftsmanship. With this new international edition, la Galerie du 19M continues its mission of opening the world of the Métiers d’art to a wider public, revealing the gestures, materials, tools and creative processes behind these remarkable disciplines.

Designed by Studio Adrien Gardère, the introductory section of the exhibition will welcome visitors with an immersive presentation of the savoir-faire of the eleven Maisons d’art resident at le19M. This opening chapter will highlight the precision, poetry and material intelligence that define their work, offering a first encounter with the living heritage of craftsmanship.

At the heart of the project is the group exhibition “A Sense of Touch”, or 触碰 Chù Pèng in Chinese. Curated by an editorial committee composed of four creative voices — GONG Yan, LIN Tianmiao, ZHANG Lei and Christelle Kocher — the exhibition brings Chinese and French artists, designers and artisans into conversation with the Maisons d’art of le19M.

Through textiles, embroidery, ceramics, woodcarving, lacquer, bamboo weaving, installations and other material practices, “A Sense of Touch” invites visitors to consider touch as a way of knowing, creating and connecting. Moving between personal memory, cultural exchange and the living world, the exhibition presents craftsmanship not simply as heritage, but as a contemporary practice in constant evolution.

Among the participating creatives already announced are Chinese artists DING Yi, YIN Xiuzhen, SHEN Yuan, WU Jian’an, BI Rongrong and QIAN Lihuai, alongside French artists including Diane Chéry, Deborah Fischer, Mathilde Albouy and Julian Farade. The full line-up will be unveiled in the coming months.

In resonance with this exploration of contemporary craft, la Galerie du 19M SHANGHAI will also present a newly conceived edition of “Lesage. 100 Years of Fashion and Decoration”, developed jointly by Lesage and Émilie Hammen. Founded in 1924 and closely linked to CHANEL, Lesage is internationally renowned for its excellence in embroidery and weaving. The exhibition will retrace a century of innovation, creative collaborations and contributions to fashion and design, while also paying tribute to the long-standing connections between Lesage and China.

The project will be completed by a public cultural programme featuring talks, hands-on workshops and guided tours, designed to further explore the Métiers d’art and encourage direct dialogue between visitors, artisans and creatives. Booking details will be announced through le19M’s newly launched official WeChat account and Mini Program.

With la Galerie du 19M SHANGHAI, CHANEL reaffirms its commitment to preserving and reimagining the Métiers d’art, building a bridge between cultures, techniques and creative sensibilities. More than a celebration of craftsmanship, the project presents the hand as a vessel of memory, thought and emotion — a universal language through which cultures continue to meet, transform and create.
