In the heart of Paris’s Left Bank, the legendary Saint Germain des Prés cinema reopens to the public following an ambitious renovation project supported by CHANEL. Deeply connected to the spirit of the French New Wave, this historic movie theatre returns as a place of encounters, creativity and artistic freedom, values that have long resonated with the world of Gabrielle Chanel.

Through this partnership, CHANEL accompanies the rebirth of an iconic cultural venue, helping to preserve the emotional and collective experience of cinema while supporting the future of the seventh art.

The new programme at Saint Germain des Prés will bring together heritage films and contemporary independent cinema, with exclusive screenings, themed cycles, director-focused retrospectives, premieres and conversations with leading figures from the film industry. These events will be organised in collaboration with cultural institutions and festivals, reinforcing the cinema’s role as a vibrant space for discovery and exchange.

To mark the reopening on 4 June 2026, CHANEL hosted a preview screening of Bertrand Mandico’s latest film, Roma Elastica, supported by the House. Presented as part of the Midnight Screenings in the Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival, the film stars CHANEL ambassador Marion Cotillard as an actress who agrees to shoot a science-fiction film in Rome in an attempt to breathe new life into her career.

The screening was followed by a conversation between Bertrand Mandico and Marion Cotillard, moderated by filmmaker, screenwriter and poet Ramata-Toulaye Sy. Friends of the House and prominent figures from the film industry gathered to celebrate the occasion and the beginning of a new chapter for one of Paris’s most storied cinemas.
