Prada brings art, design and ritual into dialogue with Chawan Cabinet, a new project conceived by Theaster Gates for Prada Home in Milan, at Via Montenapoleone 6.

At the heart of the exhibition is ceramics, explored as both functional object and expressive form. Gates’ works are presented alongside pieces by Japanese ceramic masters and a selection of Prada Home designs, creating a layered narrative around craftsmanship, memory and domestic culture.
The title references the chawan, the traditional Japanese tea bowl, a symbol of hospitality and mindful presence. That idea shapes the exhibition’s atmosphere, with an immersive setting inspired by the Japanese home and defined by tactile materials, restrained volumes and a contemplative mood.

Highlights include a cabinet from Gates’ personal collection and a tea house in the courtyard, conceived as a space for gathering and tea ritual. With Chawan Cabinet, Prada continues to explore the intersection of luxury, design and cultural research, turning the domestic space into a contemporary narrative.
