German watch manufacture A. Lange & Söhne and the Dresden State Art Collections (SKD) celebrate the 20th anniversary of their collaboration by extending their partnership for an additional five years, continuing a relationship that highlights their shared commitment to art, culture, and heritage.

Since 2006, A. Lange & Söhne has supported the museum network as a sponsor, contributing to one of the most important cultural institutions in Europe. The Dresden State Art Collections comprise 15 museums, including the Grünes Gewölbe (Green Vault), the Old and New Masters Picture Galleries and the Royal Cabinet of Mathematical and Physical Instruments, all recognized for the significance of their collections.

The Royal Cabinet of Mathematical and Physical Instruments holds a particularly strong connection with the watch manufacture. Its historic timepieces and scientific instruments played a role in inspiring Ferdinand Adolph Lange in the early nineteenth century. Around 1830, the collection helped spark his ambition to create the finest watches in the world, a vision he later realized by founding his manufacture in Glashütte in 1845.

A key milestone in the shared history of the brand and the museum association dates back to 24 October 1994, when A. Lange & Söhne presented its first four wristwatch models of the modern era at the Dresden Royal Palace. The collection included the LANGE 1, ARKADE, SAXONIA and TOURBILLON “Pour le Mérite”, marking the rebirth of the brand after German reunification.

The partnership was formalized in 2006 and has since supported a number of important initiatives, including the restoration of the Royal Cabinet of Mathematical and Physical Instruments, which reopened to the public in 2013 after a six-year renovation.

Beyond heritage preservation, the collaboration also focuses on education and cultural initiatives aimed at younger generations. Exhibitions dedicated to the history of Saxon watchmaking and educational programs at the museum’s learning center promote curiosity for science, craftsmanship and technical innovation.

In 2026, the partnership will continue to support several exhibition projects organized by the Dresden State Art Collections, further reinforcing the long-standing dialogue between watchmaking, art and cultural heritage.
