To launch the new season, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées is presenting five evenings dedicated to both memory and modernity, with CHANEL as a partner—continuing the House’s century-long bond with dance.

The program features two ballets: The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky, reimagined by Pina Bausch and performed by dancers from thirteen African countries, many trained at the École des Sables; and Joséphine, a solo work by Franco-Senegalese choreographer Germaine Acogny, celebrating the legendary Josephine Baker. For this piece, Paloma—an atelier of le19M specializing in flou—has designed four costumes, extending the dialogue between fashion and dance.
This encounter honors a dual legacy: in 1913, Stravinsky and Nijinsky’s avant-garde creation profoundly inspired Gabrielle Chanel, while in 1925, Josephine Baker first took the same stage. Their stories intertwine with Chanel’s friendship with Stravinsky and her patronage of the 1920 revival of The Rite of Spring.

Through this collaboration, CHANEL reaffirms its enduring commitment to dance and contemporary artistic creation, a tradition rooted in Mademoiselle Chanel’s vision.
