Olivier Polge and the new frontier of Bleu de Chanel L’Exclusif

“I like it when a perfume lingers. On a scarf the next day or in my hair,” confesses Olivier Polge in the video featuring him in conversation with Timothée Chalamet.

There are perfumes that don’t simply narrate an era: they define it. Bleu de Chanel belongs to this category. Created in 2010 by Jacques Polge, it embodied an idea of free, urban, and refined masculinity. Today, fourteen years later, the baton is passed to his son Olivier Polge, the house’s current In-House Perfumer-Creator. And it is he who is pushing the saga beyond boundaries with Bleu de Chanel L’Exclusif, a new chapter that focuses on desires, visions, and new beginnings.

The bond between the Polges and Bleu de Chanel is not merely familial: it is a true thread of creative continuity. While Jacques Polge laid the foundations with the original version, Olivier has already created significant interpretations, from the 2018 Parfum to this L’Exclusif, conceived as “a dense, sophisticated, and complex composition, like an extract.”

The new Bleu is built around majestic sandalwood, sourced ethically and sustainably in New Caledonia, used only in its heart, richest in essential oils. Polge transforms this ingredient into an olfactory fabric, pairing it with leathery and resinous notes of cistus labdanum to lend depth and mystery. This is not a simple flanker, but a radical act: a Bleu that is unafraid of intensity, that “persists, on a scarf the next day or in your hair.”

“It is a dense, sophisticated, and complex composition, like an extract. A concentration of exceptional raw materials. The most magnetic and mysterious side of BLEU DE CHANEL.”
Olivier Polge, CHANEL Perfume Creator

With L’Exclusif, Olivier Polge redefines the boundaries of masculinity. His creation is not as fresh and light as previous versions: it is enveloping, warm, and intriguing. It highlights the magnetic and mysterious side of the modern man, offering both strength and intimacy. It is a fragrance that leaves no escape, that captures attention and imposes its presence.

“I like it when a perfume lingers. On a scarf the next day or in my hair,” confesses Olivier Polge in the video featuring him in conversation with Timothée Chalamet.

The campaign, directed by Timothée Chalamet, strengthens the link between Polge’s vision and the house’s imagery. In a black-and-white video, the perfumer and the actor converse as if they were partners: on one side, the creative sensibility that shapes the invisible material, on the other, a performer who embodies the mystery and boldness of this new Bleu. “It’s the concentration of exceptional raw materials. The most magnetic and mysterious side of Bleu de Chanel,” says Polge. Bleu de Chanel L’Exclusif isn’t just a new concentration. It’s the culmination of Olivier Polge’s experience as the custodian and innovator of Chanel’s olfactory language. A perfume that “engulfs the horizon with its immensity,” capable of preceding every bold act and accompanying its completion. In this Bleu, there is an echo of all blues, yet only one remains: that of Chanel.
