The Cartier Prize for Watchmaking Talents of Tomorrow, created in 1995 by the Cartier Watchmaking Institute, is now open for submissions to its 28th edition. The competition is open to apprentice watchmakers in their 3rd and 4th year of initial training and students in their 1st and 2nd year of higher vocational courses in Switzerland, France, Belgium, and Germany.

Theme 2025: “Shifting the Balance: Reading and Perceiving Time Differently.”
Candidates must reinterpret time by working on a pendulette (desk clock) movement, encouraging bold, innovative, and personal interpretations that go beyond traditional time display.
Competition Process:

Applications: Submit dossier (video, project description, sketch) via the official website between 8 September – 31 October 2025.

Selection: In December, a jury of five watch experts will choose 12 finalists (6 apprentices + 6 technicians).

Development: Finalists have up to 80 hours over three months to create their prototype, supported by an external mentor. They must also deliver a development logbook.

Presentation: Projects will be presented at the Maison des Métiers d’Art in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
