Prada Linea Rossa has teamed up with Red Bull athlete Sean MacCormac, a skysurfing pioneer and two-time X Games champion, for a groundbreaking challenge: to become the first skysurfer to glide above the cables of San Francisco’s iconic Bay Bridge after a freefall from 1,676.4 meters.
The project demanded months of preparation and the creation of state-of-the-art technical gear. MacCormac leapt from a helicopter over the California bay on a one-of-a-kind board—an innovation merging technology and style, born from the collaboration between Prada Linea Rossa and the Luna Rossa team. After a prolonged skysurf descent, he skimmed the bridge’s cables, gliding along them for several seconds before performing a spiral maneuver and touching down on a floating platform set beneath the structure.
To meet the unique demands of such a complex maneuver, the board was engineered with a honeycomb core and carbon layers — a combination that guarantees maximum responsiveness and control during flight. A high-density polyethylene base was chosen for its ability to withstand abrasion from contact with the bridge’s metal cables while remaining exceptionally lightweight. For added durability and a seamless finish, the graphics were applied directly to the surface, eliminating the need for adhesives.
Every aspect of the design drew on the Luna Rossa team’s engineering expertise from America’s Cup projects, showcasing how research, functionality, and design can converge in even the most extreme challenges. Complementing the athlete’s performance, Prada Linea Rossa provided high-performance apparel and accessories that merge textile innovation with advanced aerodynamic functionality.
