Launched in 2022 by GemGenève co-founder Ronny Totah, the partnership aims to raise children’s awareness of gemmology from a very early age and offer a range of family-focused activities. Following on from the success of the interactive events at previous editions of the show, “we’re delighted to be returning to GemGenève” says The Gem Museum’s co-founder Loke Hui Ying. T
Our aim is to create an experience that will resonate with families by cultivating an interest in precious stones and greater appreciation of their history and related knowhow. Tay Kunming, co-founder of The Gem Museum
The Gem Museum describes its mission as ‘Bridging the gap between the jewellery industry and the rest of the world’. Founded in 2014 by two impassioned gemmologists, The Gem Museum breaks with tradition by putting visitors in direct contact with its exhibits. The museum aims to serve as a springboard for learning, with fun, educational workshops and a department especially for ‘Junior Rockstars’ : children under 12 with an interest in the world of rocks and minerals.
The Gem Museum offers a multi-sensory learning experience in which visitors are encouraged to touch the stones, learn how to use a loupe and discover how to identify different minerals. As a partner at the ninth edition of GemGenève, The Gem Museum will be organising several beginners’ sessions and other activities for children aged 4 and up throughout the four-day event.
Two flagship events will be the ‘Mine to Market’ workshop (a one-and-a-half-hour session to learn all about the scientific and artistic aspects of precious stones) and an escape game during which players have to find a mineralogical treasure! Children will also be able to express their creativity in a series of art workshops devoted to precious stones and simulated gem extraction.
