The hot air balloon, an imaginative and emblematic symbol of the Maison, reaches the world of Louis Vuitton Fine Watchmaking, inspiring two incredible creations. Exploring a new way of telling the time, the creative process starts with a simple question: what is more precious than time? As always, the Maison turned to its innovative and brilliant founder. Before becoming a famous trunk maker, Louis Vuitton was a packer, helping to store and prepare his clients’ most precious objects before a trip, ensuring their safe transport.
The Maison’s historic passion for adventure and discovery has meant that the Maison’s trunks have been expertly designed to be functional, elegant and innovative. In 1906, Louis Vuitton designed the Aéro Trunk, an avant-garde creation that attached to the base of a hot air balloon. Lightweight and resistant, the trunk was also sealed with a watertight closure to ensure that it would float if it fell into the sea. Harnessing the allure of hot air ballooning, Louis Vuitton’s Aéro Trunk captured the imagination of daring travellers eager to discover the world.
