Louis Vuitton presents LV Art Silk Squares, a new collaboration featuring five versions of the Maison’s iconic silk scarf, created by international contemporary artists.
The creatives: German pixel-art collective eBoy, French-Japanese-Spanish design duo Icinori, Italian artist and illustrator Lorenzo Mattotti, French graphic novelist and illustrator Nicolas de Crécy, and Swiss artist Thomas Ott have previously collaborated with Louis Vuitton, notably on the illustrated book series “Travel Book”. For LV Art Silk Square, each of them explores the theme of the flower, the Maison’s symbol, reinterpreting it in a creative way.
The artists bring new perspectives to Louis Vuitton’s codes and rich heritage.
The artists’ exquisite works are carefully transferred onto silk in the workshops of Como, Italy, a world center of craftsmanship and home to centuries-old expertise in silk processing. Through constant dialogue with artists and an extraordinary knowledge of traditional and cutting-edge techniques, Louis Vuitton’s Paris studio and Italian artisans ensure that each exquisite scarf faithfully reproduces the original artwork. A process that often requires printing multiple layers of color onto the finest white silk, which is then washed and dried, before the edges are hand-sewn using an ancient technique known as roulottage.
Designed to be worn versatilely or framed, the scarves’ bright, intense colors are full of creative energy and demonstrate Louis Vuitton’s commitment to combining art and savoir-faire.
