For the presentation of the Spring-Summer 2024 Collection, Tod’s has chosen the place that best expresses Italian craftsmanship: the Scala Ansaldo Laboratories, where set designers, sculptors and carpenters create the extraordinary scenography of the Teatro alla Scala, as do the master craftsmen of Tod’s they give life to collections of the highest quality. Immersed in the mise en scène in progress of Don Carlos, scheduled for the premiere at the Teatro alla Scala in December, Tod’s wants to celebrate the excellence of Made in Italy, for which it has always been the spokesperson in the world and trying to encourage young people to get closer to the world of quality craftsmanship.
Following the same path, the Creative Director of Tod’s, Walter Chiapponi, has created a collection that is the culmination of a long research into the essentiality of design and the quality of Italian craftsmanship. Having eliminated all decoration, the construction of the garments is entrusted to the cut, volumes and quality of the materials. The reference to the men’s wardrobe and minimalism of the Nineties is revisited with an entirely feminine attitude, where each garment of the sartorial tradition acquires softness and fluidity.
The clothes, with wide trousers with pleats and collarless jacket, are unlined and deconstructed in very light fabrics; the waistcoat, omnipresent, becomes a feminine, sensual gesture on bare skin; the trench coat, an essential element in the Tod’s wardrobe, is available in impalpable fabrics and very light and colorful leather.
The blouson shirt is fresh, in light cotton or soft nappa; the poplin T-shirt with kimono sleeves is surprising, worn with a large multi-pocket belt, which completes many looks; the seductive patchwork pleated skirt in pleated fabric; The crochet effect knitwear in strong contrasting colors is tactile and artisanal.
The monochrome of natural tones – ecru, camel, tobacco, burnt – which recall the leather goods for which Tod’s is known throughout the world, is interrupted by touches of lime green. The fabrics are always very light and soft: viscose, linen gauze, fresh transparent wool, very soft nappa.
The bags that complete each look have eliminated all decoration, becoming cult objects, essential in their shapes, determined by their construction and leather. The iconic Di Bag is seamless and elongated and the T Timeless bags are presented in embossed leather. The new Tod’s T – Box bag, geometric and structured, is in shiny leather closed by a metal T. The new shopping bag is a fabric and leather bag, which molds to the wearer’s body.
The artisanal knowledge of Italian footwear has always been at the center of Tod’s research which cultivates its tradition and development for the new generations. This season the traditionally masculine moccasin is the starting point for the exploration of a decidedly feminine universe. The absolute protagonist is the iconic Gommino, which is celebrated in the bubble version, in fine leathers. The collection is completed by the ballerina, the mule and a new woven sandal, presented with a small minimalist heel, in soft shades. The use of rare and precious leather reinforces the message of excellence and quality exclusively Made in Italy.
