Mi chiamo Sirikit Harivongs, ho 22 anni e vivo a Biarritz una piccola città nel sud della Francia. La costa basca è anche chiamata la California francese perchè è la patria dei primi surfisti europei. La cultura del surf qui è ovunque. Sono sempre in cerca di avventure…nuovi incontri e nuove scoperte sia nel mondo reale che attraverso i social media. Ho un amore profondo per la natura e in particolare per l’oceano, sono cresciuta con questo oceano e per questo voglio proteggerlo. Mi porta gioia e pace interiore. Ho una laurea in marketing e faccio anche la modella da 3 anni a questa parte. So di essere fortunata e di vivere una bellissima vita e per questo cerco di avere un lifestyle sano e rispettoso della natura.
Cosa ti piace di più del surf a paragone di altri sport?
Ho sempre praticato moltissimo sport, dallo yoga alla danza al ciclismo, ma il surf è una storia d’amore e di felicità! Durante l’estate qui le onde sono più piccole e ci sono un sacco di turisti, mi piace vedere le facce felici dei bambini che incontrano le loro prime onde. Una buona sessione di surf la mattina o di sera al tramonto per avere un sonno perfetto. Il surf rende felici le persone in modo molto semplice e diretto.
Quando e come hai iniziato con il surf?
Sono nata qui a Biarritz e vivevo a Saint Pierre nell’isola di Reunion, ed è li che ho iniziato a surfare a Etang Salé o a 3 Bassins. Provengo da una famiglia molto sportiva…fra hiking e le immersioni…non ci fermiamo mai. La mia prima tavola è stata una shortboard, era perfetta e la adoravo! Poi ognuno di noi ha avuto la sua tavola personale realizzata da Mickey Rat, per me una mini Malibu che ho ancora appesa ad una parete del mio appartamento.
Che rapporto hai con la natura? Cosa ne pensi dello stato attuale dell’ambiente?
Sono innamorata dell’oceano. Ho studiato a Bordeaux, una città a 30 minuti dal mare…ma era troppo lontano per me! Da sempre facendo attività all’aria aperta e quindi ho imparato molto presto a rispettare la natura.
Dopo aver lavorato alla Surfrider Foundation Europe, sono ancora più sensibile alle tematiche ambientali. Gli oceani sono una parte fondamentali per la qualità della vita di tutti gli essere viventi. Nei miei viaggi, ad esempio in Marocco o alle Maldive, sono rimasta scioccata dalla quantità di inquinamento e dai danni procurati…credo sia arrivato il momento di iniziare seriamente a pensare agli oceani per preservarli e mantenerli puliti. Educazione e prevenzione dovrebbero essere al centro dei progetti di tutti i governi! Sono rimasta delusa dai risultati del COP21, perchè non c’è il tempo di aspettare che vengano raggiunti accordi internazionali globali. A volte dovremmo tutti fare dei sacrifici per il benessere del mondo.
Qual è il tuo spot ideale per surfare e perchè è così speciale?
La mia idea di uno spot bello è quando l’onda lascia la riva con acqua calda e limpida! Honkeys nelle Maldive è perfetto per me. Ma purtroppo non ci posso andare ogni giorno ah ah! La Grande Plage a Biarritz e Madrague sono molto vicini a dove vivo e ci posso andare ogni volta che voglio! Ma davvero, le migliori sessioni sono quelle con il mio amore, non importa dove siamo!
Se dovessi convincere qualcuno con 3 parole a iniziare a surfare, quali sarebbero?
Felicità, divertimento e salute è quello che mi da il surf.
Che rapporto hai con la moda? Hai un tuo stile personale?
Ho sempre amato la moda e giocare con i vestiti a seconda del mio umore. Ho imparato a cucine molto velocemente da mia nonna e così ho un’idea molto chiara di cosa voglio indossare. Sono la tira che ascolta i Doors e Bowie, che ama la moda degli anni ’70 e vivere sulla spiaggia. Stivali di pelle nera, vestiti vintage o camicie romantiche…nel mio guardaroba ci sono anche molti pezzi che vengono dai miei viaggi.
Billabong, Anthropologie, Zara, o Rhythm Girl sono alcuni dei marchi che indosso di solito. Da quando ho iniziato a fare la modella penso di aver trovato il mio stile, sono fissata con i cappelli, le scarpe e ovviamente i bikini! Non ho davvero idea di quanti bikini abbia…faccio le mie ricerche e i miei acquisti online perchè odio essere vestita come la ragazza che mi sta accanto.
Che rapporto hai con i social? non ne puoi fare a meno o a volte vorresti stare off-line?
Sono su Instagram per condividere quello che amo e seguire le persone che mi piaccio e fare nuove scoperte. Pinterest e per trovare spunti e ispirazione, Facebook per mantenere i contatti con gli amici e la famiglia, uso anche Twitter ma più per la mia vita lavorativa.
La maggior parte dei miei contratti come modella sono grazie al mio account Instagram e Facebook, così devo cercare di usarli al meglio. Lavoro anche nel web marketing per cui sto davvero un sacco di tempo sui social. Sono fonti di ispirazione e di incontri bellissimi! Ma non dimentichiamoci che i social non sono la vita reale! Possiamo postare quello che vogliamo…ma non scordiamoci che tutti hanno dei giorni no, anche le modelle in bikini che sembrano trascorrere la loro vita viaggiando in posti meravigliosi! Cerco di staccare ogni volta che posso, non voglio mica vivere la mia vita attraverso uno schermo. Dobbiamo sapere godere di momenti reali, veri e non social.
Se dovessi dare via la tua tavola preferita, a chi ti piacerebbe donarla?
La darei all’associazione French National Association Handi Surf. Il surf porta felicità e benessere per il corpo e la mente. Ho piena fiducia nella “surf therapy”! Questa associazione si occupa di garantire l’accessibilità alle persone con disabilità, su tutto il territorio francese, alla pratica degli sport invernali riconosciuti dalla French Surfing Federation. In poche parole portano gioia e momenti di bellezza alle persone che pensavano di non poterne godere.
L’ultima domanda, Zoe significa vita in greco…quale sarebbe il tuo posto ideale per vivere?
Vicino al mare e lontano dalla grande città, il mio amore e magari un gattino?

I am Sirikit Harivongs. I am twenty two and I live in Biarritz. It’s a little town in southwest of France. La Cote Basque is also called the French California because is where surfing first arrived in Europe. The surf culture is everywhere here. I think I’m a adventure seeker… Always looking for new escapes and encounters around the world and through social media. I have a real love for the nature and especially for the ocean. I’ve grown with this Ocean so I want to protect it. It brings me joy and peace. I have a degree in marketing and I’m also a model since 3 years now. I really enjoy my life and I know how much I’m lucky so I try to have a good and healthy lifestyle according to my values.
What do you like most about surfing compared to other sports?
I have always practiced a lot of sports, yoga, dance or cycling. But surfing is a story of happiness! During Summer time in Biarritz, the waves are smaller and there are a lot of tourists in the water, I love to see the faces of happy children standing on their first waves. A good session in the morning to start the day or in the evening with the sunset to sleep well. Surfing makes people happy simply.
How, where and why did you start practicing this sport?
I was born here, in Biarritz and I used to live in Saint Pierre, in Reunion Island. It is there that I really started surfing at Etang Salé or at 3 Bassins. My family is very athletic so between hiking on volcanoes and scuba diving, we never stop. My first board was a foam board but shortsboard style, it was perfect I loved it! Then we each had a local board shaper Mickey Rat, for me it was a mini malibu that I still have now as a decoration in my apartment.
How is your connection with nature? What do you think of the state of the environment today?
I’m in love with the ocean. I did my studies in Bordeaux, a city 30 minutes from the sea but it was too far for me! Moreover, I have always been accustomed to do outdoor activities and I learned quickly to respect nature. After working at Surfrider Foundation Europe, I am more sensitive to the environmental cause. The oceans are the major players in the climate and quality of life of all living beings. In my travels, as in Morocco and Maldives, I was shocked by the pollution and its damages… I think it is time to carry out large projects to clean and preserve the oceans. Education and prevention should be at the heart of the concerns of governments! I was a little bit disappointed by the COP21 results because we don’t really have time to wait looking for global aggreements. Sometime we should make sacrifices for the common good.
What is your ideal “spot” for surfing and why its so special?
My ideal is a beautiful spot left wave on the reef with clear warm water! Honkeys in Maldives is perfect for me. But for now, I can’t go there every day! haha! La Grande Plage in Biarritz and Madrague are very close to my home, I go there whenever I can! But really, the best are those sessions with my lover, no matter where we are!
If you had to persuade someone with three words to surf, what would you say?
« Happiness » « Fun » and « Healthy » is what surfing brings to me.
What is your relationship with fashion? You have your own style, you like to play with clothes and fashion?
I’ve always loved fashion and playing with clothes depending on my mood. I learned to sew very fast with my grandmother so I have a clear idea of what I want to wear. I’m the girl who listens the Doors, David Bowie, loves the 70’s fashion and living at the beach. Black leather boots, vintage dresses or romantic shirts… You also find pieces from travels in my wardrobe. Billabong, Anthropologie, Zara, or Rhythm Girl are some of the brands I use to wear. Since I started my model career, I think I have found my style. I am addicted to hats, shoes and of course bikinis! I dont know how many bikinis I have… I do my shopping online because I hate to be dressed like the girl next to me.
Your relationship with social, photos, instagram ..? You cannot live without it…or sometimes you prefer to be “off line”?
I’m in Instagram for sharing what I love and follow people and discover, Pinterest for inspiration, Facebook for my friends and family and also Twitter but more for my professionnal life. The majority of my contracts as a model are thanks to my instagram and facebook accounts, so I need to use them in the good way. But I also work in web marketing so I spend lot of time on social media. They are sources of inspiration and beautiful meetings! But do not forget that social media are not real life! We can post whatever we want… Everyone has bad days even these models in swimwear who spent their life traveling in amazing places! I switch off as soon as I can. I dont want to live throught my screen. We must know how to envoy true moments.
If you had to give away your favorite board, who would you like to donate?
My favority board ? I will give it to the French National Association of Handi Surf. Surfing brings happyness but aslo benefits for mind and body. I trust in the « surf therapy » ! They ensure accessibility to persons with disabilities, on the whole French territory, through the practice of winter sports recognized by the French Surfing Federation. In short, they bring joy and beautiful moments to people who did not thought capable of.
The last question, perhaps a little ironic: ZOE means “life” in greek… what would it be your ideal place to live?
Close to the sea away from big town, my lover and maybe a baby cat?
