Interview with Eva Fehren    Italiano-Inglese-New11

Ogni pezzo è realizzata a mano a New York city.

Interior Designer.

The Eva Fehren fine jewelry collection was created by New York designer Eva Zuckerman and her business partner, Ann Gorga. Formally trained in fine arts at the cooper union, eva draws from the industrial, architectural and geometric elements of her native New York: icons such as the Chrysler Building; the crisscrossing of power lines, and patterns in the cracked sidewalks of the west village where she was raised.

Created with 18k gold and platinum paired with precious materials such as custom cut geometric white diamonds, grey diamonds and opaque sapphires, Eva Fehren Jewelry is boldly feminine while remaining iconic, modern and effortlessly cool. each piece of jewelry is hand crafted in New York city. In addition to her main collection, Eva launched Eva Fehren white in 2014. The white collection is comprised of engagement rings and wedding bands that stay true to the brand’s core aesthetic, offering an edgy, yet timeless take on bridal jewelry.

Eva’s collection is supported worldwide at high-end retailers including Barneys New York nationwide, The Alchemist, Effrey, Twist, and Liberty of London. Furthermore, the jewelry has developed a cult following of a-list celebrities, such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Emma Watson, Jennifer Lawrence, Rihanna, Cara Delevingne, Lily Aldridge and Karolina Kurkova, to name a few. in 2014 Eva was acknowledged for her excellence in design when she became a member of the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). Eva was also honored when she was named runner-up in the 2014 CFDA Vogue fashion fund competition. most recently, Eva received a nomination for the 2015 CFDA Swarovski awards for accessory design.

Following an interview that Eva kindly agreed:

When and how did you decide that you wanted to be a designer?

It wasn’t something that happened overnight, I’ve always been a creative person, painting and drawing are a huge part of my life and jewelry is a natural extension of my creativity.

Was is your dream job?

I have my dream job.

What is the first thing you designed and for who (yourself, a friend…)?

The X Ring was the jumping off point for the entire collection. At the time I was starting my line, there wasn’t a lot of jewelry that felt like it reflected my personal downtown style … I wanted to create a line of minimal, iconic pieces that felt feminine without being overly ornate or girly.

Which designer do you admire most and why?

I look to artists, architects and industrial designers for inspiration more often than I look to other jewelers. I have been going through furniture phase lately and have been looking at a lot of Charles Eames and Paolo Piva.

Who is your muse or icon when you create new designs?

My Muse a woman who is timeless and effortlessly cool. She has classic, confident and strong style. My ultimate muse is my mother…strong beautiful and independent, she inspires not only my designs but who I strive to be as a person.

If you had to design an entire collection using just one color or material, which one would you pick and why?

BLACK….on BLACK.

Who’s the first person you show your sketches to?

My business partner Ann Gorga. We went into this venture together. She’s the ‘business’ side of Eva Fehren, my right hand and has known me since we were teenagers. Ann understands the DNA of my designs and is my ultimate sounding board.

What material/stone do you love the most and why?

I have recently fallen in love with Morganite…a gorgeous pale pink stone that I used in my last collection. I have been setting them upside down, revealing a sharp “spine” on the stone and toning down the color to create a subdued, dreamy soft pink. I am attracted to this nontraditional approach to such a classic, pretty stone.

If your jewels had a soundtrack, which songs would you choose?

Um… I’m not a very musical person. But if I had to choose probably anything by Prince…a timeless classic that always feels cool. Something you always want to listen to and never gets old.

Do you have any tricks to avoid that “blank page” moment when you’re at the beginning of designing  a new collection? Do you watch a movie, flip an old magazine…

I’m hugely influenced by the art world and will always escape to a museum or gallery exhibition to find inspiration. I’m formally trained in Fine Arts at Cooper Union. My paintings tend to be larger monochromatic gestural pieces. The parallel between how I approach my paintings and jewelry designs creates an innate balance. Artists such as Richard Serra, Eva Hesse, Helmut Newton and Robert Mapplethorpe are influences when looking into designing a new collection. As of late, I’ve found some incredibly inspiring New York based female artists Rebecca Dayan and Andrea Mary Marshall who’s feminist approach has been highly influential.

If you weren’t a designer which job would you like to do and why?

Interior Designer.
