Paul Smith No.9 Albemarle Street ospita una mostra di David Bailey per celebrare il lancio del suo nuovo libro “Tears and Tears”.

Valutare il perfetto tempo di posa per una fotografia in una camera oscura è un processo che richiede pazienza e l’irriverente David Bailey non ne ha mai avuta troppa. Di solito un fotografo fa vari test, ognuno con un tempo di posa differente ma Bailey, per trovare il risultato desiderato, ha sempre agito intuitivamente strappando le strisce della carta non esposta. “Di solito ottenevo ciò che volevo dopo 3 strappi”, dice l’artista.

Negli anni Bailey ha continuato ad applicare il metodo degli strappi, preservando le qualità uniche ed imprevedibili di queste prove attraverso fissaggi e lavaggi. “Tears and Tears” ( “Tears” eng. lacrime; strappi) contiene una serie di opere di Bailey che trasformano alcuni dei suoi motifs più famosi in immagini affascinanti ed astratte, attraverso bordi strappati e miriadi di tonalità.

La mostra ad Albemarle Street presenta una collezione di 70 scatti selezionati dal libro con personaggi come Mick Jagger, Al Pacino, Andy Warhol e molti altri. Paul Smith No. 9 Albemarle Street hosts an exhibition of photography by David Bailey, celebrating the launch of his new book, ‘Tears and Tears’.

David Bailey, born in London in 1938, is one of the most successful photographers of his generation, and his career, in and beyond photography, spans sixty years. Long time friends, Paul is delighted to welcome David Bailey into his Mayfair shop.

Determining the perfect exposure time for a photographic print in a traditional darkroom can be a time-consuming and tedious process, and the irreverent David Bailey has never had much patience for it. Normally a photographer makes a number of test strips, each showing different exposure times; but Bailey has always just intuitively torn off strips of the unexposed paper to nd the desired result: “I would usually have it in the bag after three tears.”

Over the decades Bailey has kept his “test tears,” rexing and washing them to preserve the unpredictable and unique qualities of these “accidents.” ‘Tears and Tears’ contains a selection of Bailey’s tears, which transform some of his most famous motifs into fascinating abstract pictures through their torn edges and myriad tones.

The exhibition at Paul Smith No. 9 Albemarle Street presents a collection of over seventy images from the book featuring the likes of Mick Jagger, Al Pacino, Andy Warhol and many more. Each artwork is for sale and is totally unique, torn differently by David Bailey and in an edition of 1 of 1, signed and stamped individually.
