a.KNACKFUSS FW 2015    Italiano-Inglese-New

For her Fall-Winter 2015-16 collection, Alice Knackfuss explores the consumerist symbols of capitalist societies. Popular cartoon characters merge with 20th century artistic trends, such as Piet Mondrian’s colour block paintings (Composition with Red Yellow and Blue 1935-1942), and Sigmar Polke’s 1970s reinterpretations of Albrecht Dürer’s Rabbit, reinvented here in outlines of over-sized dogs and dinosaurs on neoprene.

A child of the 1990s, Knackfuss plays with the iconic images that have shaped her universe while humorously and tenderly confronting ‘over-healthy’ lifestyle trends, putting political correctness in its place. Bold references from capitalist societies of the last century emblazon the collection as badges in the form of hamburgers, fast food, smiley faces, Pac- man, cigarettes, and comic superheroes.

In her interpretations of masculine codes through shirts, jackets, and tailored trousers, she transposes genres, imbuing a boyish allure on a feminine wardrobe. Knackfuss playfully experiments with the proportions of her clothes, unafraid to superimpose layers, materials – sometimes hard, sometimes soft – to create harmonious contrasts. She also provokes optical illusions through trompe l’oeil, applied-encrusted printed onto her clothes. Entitled Cube, this collection presents a lively, prickly, acidic, and idiosyncratic perspective – a light and affectionate mockery.
