Intervista a Nicola Pucci a cura di Floriana Spanò.

Nasce nel 1966 a Palermo. Terminato il liceo classico si trasferisce a Roma e frequenta un corso di illustrazione presso lo IED (Istituto Europeo di Disegno) .

Dopo una collaborazione a Vipiteno come illustratore per la Pigna,nel ‘90 inizia da autodidatta ad avvicinarsi alla pittura. Trasferitosi nuovamente a Roma, la città vista come un museo a cielo aperto , gli offre la possibilità di vedere da vicino le opere dei grandi artisti e di confrontarsi con molti di loro apprendendo al meglio la tecnica.

La sua pittura trae origine dalla pittura realistica,ma una volta dipinto il soggetto del quadro ,agisce con macchie ,dissolvenze,velature sporcando la tela e modificando l’immagine originaria . La resa dettagliata iniziale del quadro, ereditata degli studi dei grandi maestri del passato, lascia posto a gesti emozionali e cromatici che fanno intravedere l’influenza di uno dei suoi pittori preferiti: Francis Bacon.

Ciò che conta per Pucci e’ la tecnica ,non l’aspetto del quadro .

I colori agiscono sull’immagine in quanto materia, attraverso una tavolozza dei colori essenziale in cui fanno da padrone il giallo,il rosso di Prussia,il blu e di bianco. Altro aspetto essenziale dei suoi quadri e’ il movimento ,rappresentato nella sua sospensione, colto come azione nel momento in cui viene svolto e non nel suo esito finale.

Un gesto che non ha né un inizio ne’ una fine. E’ decontestualizzata ed inconsueta come inconsueti sono i contesti in cui accade .
Un teoria del possibile ed improbabile come tutto ciò che accade nella vita.

He was born in 1966 in Palermo. After high school he moved to Rome and attended an illustration course at IED (European Institute of Design).
After collaborating to Vipiteno as an illustrator for the Pigna , in the 90’s began a self-taught approach to painting.


He moved back to Rome, the city seen as an open-air museum, gives him the opportunity to see the works of great artists and to deal with many of them learning the best technique. His painting originates from realistic painting, but once painted the subject of the painting, works with stains, fading, tainting the canvas and changing the original image.

The initial picture of the painting ,inherited study of the great masters of the past, gives way to emotional gestures and colors that offer glimpses of the influence of one of his favorite painters: Francis Bacon. What matters to Pucci is the technique, not the look of the picture.
The colors act in the painting through a color palette essential as yellow, red Prussian blue and white .

Another essential aspect of his paintings is the movement , represented in his suspension, the action is when it is done, not at the final outcome. A gesture that has neither a beginning nor ‘end. Is out of context and unusual as unusual are the contexts in which it occurs.

A theory of the possible and unlikely as everything that happens in life.
