Daria Anisimova is the fashion designer who born in Ukraine. She is a founder of Roly.Poly brand and now she is a part of MoreDash project with the “Eye on the East”.

When did you decide that you would like to be a designer?

Initially I didn’t plan to be a designer, I just always liked beautiful things. But in the one moment I decided to create fashionable beautiful aprons. It’s quite unusual, stylish and no one has done this before. I mean – no one focused on it! Everything began because of my school friends in Scotland, they were the students in Saint Martins. One of them read about the history of the apron in the library and recalled to me, if was so inspiring! Then I started to collaborate with people from France and Italy, who work professionally with fur, high quality feathers and stones from Italy. And of course masters from Ukraine, who make embroidery and drawings on feathers are very important team members and my big supporters.

It was your dream job?

It wasn’t my dream job, but now I get the maximum pleasure from this what I do, so probably the dream job looks like this.

The first thing that you designed was an apron, this item is an internal part of your collections?

Yes, yes, how I mentioned, the first thing I designed was an apron. And even the first collection consisted mainly of aprons. In my next collection I decided to add some ready-to-wear items, so now my brand becomes even more versatile for the ladies.

Who’s the designer you admire the most and why?

I love Prada and Miu Miu, Miuccia Prada creates crazy things and thought I can not imagine myself wearing all of them, but each and every item makes a WOW effect.

Do you have some muse when you creating clothes?

Our muse is our client. This is a girl with a strong character, who is not afraid to experiment and attract the attention of others.

If you had to design an entire collection using just one colour, which is the one you’d pick?

Despite the fact that the inspiration of my collections is nature – exotic animals and plants, the dominant color of all products is black. This is a very multi-faceted color, which, in addition to feathers and jewels, looks noble and stylish and also versatile. Black corsets and aprons can perfectly fill or dilute your look.

Who’s the first person you show your sketches to?

The first person who saw my product was my mother. She is my main support at all stages of development of my brand. I listen to her advices and critics. She is well versed in fashion and trends, and also understands my taste well.

The fabric you love the most is?

The brand’s DNA is feathers, in each product there are feathers, which are complemented by stones and hand-made paintings. Therefore feathers – is the main material with which I work.

If your clothes had a soundtrack, which songs you’d choose?

Greek composer Vangelis, who made music for many cool movies, like Blade Runner, I also like Sevdaliza and that aesthetic. Of course sometimes I can listen something nostalgic like old post-soviet pop singers from nineteens.

Do you have any trick to avoid that “blank page” moment when you’re at the beginning of the designing of a new collection? Do you watch a movie, flip an old magazine…

Travel is the answer and my biggest advice for my new collections. If I haven’t inspiration, I just fly away somewhere for a couple of days. Far from home – maybe my mind subconsciously takes it as stress and begin to generate ideas and requires movement then – so in that time I find my inspiration and begin to create.

If you weren’t a designer which job in the fashion world you would like to do and why?

If I didn’t have a brand, I would create my own boutique with the most beautiful clothes and accessories that I would find in different parts of the world, as I often travel and I love to discover beauty everywhere.
