Sonia Rykiel SS 2018: Girls with Pearls go Left Bank Paris

A personal exploration of the essence of femininity, Left Bank style. Riffing on the aphrodisiac symbolism of an oyster and the beauty of the pearl that’s born of it, evocative of the playful sensuality of the Rykiel woman, spliced with re-contextualized Vichy checks – as reminiscent of a rive gauche café as stripes are of 175 St Germain des Près.

A wardrobe of pieces that celebrate the idiosyncrasy and individual character of a woman dressing for the heat of high summer, playing with different looks according to her disposition through the day. Empowering a woman to pursue her passions while feeling free in her clothes, through the versatility and easy functionality that’s forever at the heart of the house.

Pearls are mixed up with the house’s signature striped knitwear, on necklines, or as jewellery or on shoes.

Oyster prints are subverted with something more fetishistic. Shell scalloping details are knitted into sweater pieces. Paillettes catch the light with their shell-like iridescence.

Vichy checks are re-visited to become a new expression of Rykiel’s Parisian style vocabulary in the “Circle Dress” or a men’s jacket, and spliced with the house’s stripes in knitted tops and skirts.

Inverting the inherent power of masculine tailoring and the notion of work-wear suits with pyjama stripes, an airy, shimmering silkiness and the allure of skin exposed at the shoulder; the boiler-suit suggests the ease of one-piece dressing.

Introducing the “Oyster Bag” – a magical cotton drill box bag, inspired by days gone fishing and convertible six ways.
