Met Gala 2017 – gorgeous looks from the fashion’s big night

On the first Monday in May, the Met Gala red carpet is one of the most-watched fashion events of the year and this year’s theme, for both the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute exhibition and 2017 Met Gala, is avant-garde, inspired by fashion’s most conceptual designer, Rei Kawakubo  and the label she launched in Tokyo in 1973 – Comme des Garcons.

Met ball is like prom for the fashion industry, which means that celebrities’ outfits are not, on the whole, about elegance or glamour, but about demonstrating one’s skills in high fashion.

The event is merging of the biggest names in fashion, film and music for the evening, with each guest offering their own interpretation of the theme nominated by Anna Wintour.

The party signals the opening of the Costume Institute’s annual blockbuster show, and it is known for its celebrity and fashion hosts and the hosts were Anna Wintour, Tom Brady, Gisele Bündchen, Katy Perry and Pharrell Williams; honorary chairwomen are Ms. Kawakubo and Caroline Kennedy, the former United States ambassador to Japan.
