COTTWEILER and Gabriela Hearst: winners of the Woolmark 2016/17 International Prize
On January 23, 2017, at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, COTTWEILER and Gabriela Hearst were named winners of the Woolmark 2016/17 International Prize in the men’s and women’s clothing categories respectively.

The winner for men’s clothing is COTTWEILER, noticed by Jefferson Hack who said: “COTTWEILER works wool in a very original way and has succeeded in uniting the world of sport, sewing, streetwear and fashion. Which represents a new dimension for men’s fashion. ”
The collection, made of Merino wool outwear such as wind vests and quilted raincoats, using recycled wool scraps as insulation. Functional details such as removable cargo pockets, elastic cuffs and hems, give the collection a distinct identity.
The winner for women’s clothing is the New York designer Gabriela Hearst, known for her technical innovations and the quality of her craftsmanship. Natalie Massenet of the British Fashion Council said, “We chose Gabriela because we were all very impressed: her passion for wool, her story, and her various uses of wool fiber,” “She did a great job. We believe it will have a huge future and will be a great spokesman for wool. ”
Born in Uruguay, she grew up on a sheep farm and wants to highlight traditional values of quality. She presented a collection composed of very elegant and modern silhouettes with trench coats, evening dresses combined with baseball jackets, reversible jackets and cycling pants.
